Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say early analysis indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism left him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
